Nuts in May
Voices of the River Char
Forthcoming events:
Please join us for the second Charmouth Dragon River Festival on 31st May. The parade begins at Barr’s Lane Recreation Field at 11am and goes along the river to the beach. There will be stalls, photos, paintings and information at St Andrew’s hall from 12.30-4pm. Please come if you can.
If you’re part of an existing river action group, want to set one up or are on a Town or Parish Council and want to know more about what can be done, come and find out what others are doing. We are co-organising Dorset Climate Action Network’s Rivers and Beaches Team and helping to run a county-wide online event on 13th May. Read more about the online event - please come if you can.
We’ve been busy with our mission to help clean up our river. If you’ve joined any of our events over the last year – thank you! If you’d like to know more about what we’re doing, please read our May 2025 newsletter. Three highlights are:
River Charter: We’ve got our first 200 signatures. If you haven’t already, please sign it now online here.
Water quality testing: We’ve taken delivery of the Fluidion Alert One device from Wessex Water. It performs an E. coli test with a result in 2-14 hours. We are already testing at more sites and are aiming to identify key sources of river pollution.
Working with others: We had a very productive meeting of CROWD (Clean Rivers of West Dorset) at Wootton Fitzpaine on Friday 11th April. Minutes of this and previous meetings are online at: www.dorsetcrowd.com/resources.
If you have been, thanks for reading. Please sign our charter.
